Winter tour to Kel Suu Lake

Set out on a once-in-a-lifetime winter journey to Kel Suu, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most secluded and breathtaking alpine lakes. It is tucked away in the Naryn region’s mountains, close to the Chinese border. The valley is blanketed in snow throughout the winter, which produces a serene, enchanted scene that seems to have stood the test of time.

Travelers looking for adventure, genuine wilderness, and the splendor of Kyrgyz nature in its most pristine state would love this tour. Naryn village and the picturesque Ak-Sai Valley are traversed on the approach to Kel Suu, which offers stunning views of the mountains. When you arrive, you will be accommodated in a comfortable, winter-ready yurt or guesthouse.

Activities include horse riding through snowy valleys, light hiking, and exploring the frozen Kel Suu Lake, whose icy blue waters and dramatic cliffs make for spectacular photos. You’ll experience traditional Kyrgyz hospitality, enjoy homemade local meals, and spend evenings by the stove, surrounded by silence and starlight.

Itinerary

Departure from Bishkek after breakfast. Drive through the scenic Boom Gorge, following the Chui River.
Stop near the canyon entrance and begin a hike to Konorchek Canyon (about 2–3 hours round trip). Along the way, enjoy stunning views of red rock formations that resemble ancient castles and towers. Picnic lunch in the canyon surrounded by breathtaking desert landscapes or in Kochkor. Continue driving toward Naryn, passing by mountain valleys and traditional Kyrgyz villages. Arrival in Naryn. Dinner and overnight in a hotel.

After an early breakfast in Naryn, depart toward Kel Suu Lake, one of the most remote and breathtaking alpine lakes in Kyrgyzstan. During winter, the journey becomes a true adventure through snow-covered valleys and frozen rivers. The road passes through the Kok Kiya Valley, surrounded by high mountains and untouched wilderness.
Depending on snow conditions, the last section may be accessible only by 4×4 vehicles. Enjoy a packed or hot lunch upon arrival at the yurt camp or local shepherd’s house near the lake. Explore the magnificent Kel Suu Lake, often frozen and surrounded by steep cliffs that create a magical, otherworldly atmosphere. Take short hikes or enjoy photography sessions in this silent winter paradise. Experience the pure tranquility and the beauty of Kyrgyz winter nature far from civilization. Return to the yurt camp or guesthouse for a warm traditional Kyrgyz dinner. Overnight in a heated yurt or local house, enjoying the peaceful mountain night and starry sky.

After breakfast back to Bishkek, have lunch in Naryn. Afternoon arrive to Bishkek and drop to the hotel.

I had such a fun private tour with Kyrgyz Trip! The places we visited were absolutely beautiful, and I loved how we made spontaneous stops along the way. It really helped us experience more of the local Kyrgyz vibe. The car was super comfortable, and Aibek was incredibly helpful the entire time. We relied on him a lot, and it honestly felt like traveling with a friend rather than going on a tour.

I’m already talking with Aibek about my next trip to Kyrgyzstan, which shows how happy I was with everything.

For Indonesians—don’t think twice, just choose this trip to explore Kyrgyzstan!

Aibek, our guide, made the experience even better — super friendly, helpful, and full of local insights. Everything felt relaxed and personal. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore this stunning country!

We recently completed an unforgettable 9-day journey through Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and we cannot thank Kyrgyz Trip enough for the impeccable planning, seamless logistics, and heartfelt hospitality throughout our adventure.

From the outset, communication with the company was clear and efficient. They crafted a thoughtfully paced itinerary that balanced natural wonders, cultural immersion, and local experiences across both countries. Every destination felt curated, and the itinerary gave us a truly rich and varied understanding of Central Asia.

• Charyn Canyon & Black Canyon: Our trip began with a scenic drive from Almaty to Saty, with a stop at the dramatic Charyn Canyon. The guide gave us time to explore the striking rock formations and explained the geological and cultural significance of the site.

• Kaindy Lake: The sunken forest of Kaindy Lake was a surreal sight, and we were grateful for the guidance through the trails and photo-worthy spots.

• Kolsay Lakes Trek: The hike from Lower to Middle Kolsay Lake was well-paced and absolutely stunning. The trek was challenging in parts but manageable and worth every step for the serene mountain lake views.

• Karakol & Cultural Sites: After crossing the border, we appreciated the effort to include cultural heritage sites like the Karakol Orthodox Church and Dungan Mosque, offering insight into the region’s diversity.

• Altyn Arashan & Ala-Kul Lake: This was one of the major highlights. The off-road drive in a special army-style vehicle was exciting, and Altyn Arashan itself was pure magic—towering pine forests, alpine meadows, and soothing hot springs. The horse trek to Ala-Kul Lake was an incredible adventure and well organized, with safety and comfort carefully considered.

• Tamga, Skazka Canyon & Barskoon Waterfall: Each destination added a new dimension—from red rock fairy-tale landscapes to powerful cascading falls. Our guide ensured we had time for both exploration and rest.

The transportation was reliable and comfortable throughout. We had a spacious SUV/crossover that handled both paved and rugged terrain well. The inclusion of a special army car for the Altyn Arashan segment was a great decision for that unique journey.

Accommodation was varied and immersive—from warm and clean guesthouses to a memorable night in a yurt camp by Lake Issyk-Kul. Each location had its charm, and we were warmly welcomed by hosts wherever we stayed. Meals were generous and tasty, with a good mix of local and familiar options.

Our English-speaking guide, Alan, was knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely helpful. He was attentive to our group’s needs and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and safe. He helped us understand the local customs, suggested great photo spots, and made the entire experience smooth and enriching.

This was an incredibly well-executed and value-for-money trip. For $900 USD per person, the package included full transport, accommodations, guided activities, entry fees, horse riding, and more. We never felt rushed or neglected. Instead, we felt cared for every step of the way.

We highly recommend Kyrgyz Trip to anyone planning to explore Central Asia. Whether you’re in it for the dramatic landscapes, cultural exploration, or warm hospitality, they will deliver a well-rounded and unforgettable experience.

Thank you for an amazing journey—we will cherish these memories for a lifetime.

Our kyrgyz trip was truly mesmerizing, a big Thank You to our travel agent company "Kyrgyz trip". They did a wonderful job. Special thanks to our tour guide and planner Aibeck. The selection of places and hotels was just perfect. Krygyztan is a beautiful country but difficult terrain to travel but honestly we did not feel any difficulty even with a 10yrs old kid because it was planned so well and they were very accommodating to all our needs. We generally plan and travel to places by ourselves but I think we did the best thing by allowing Aibeck to do that job in krygyztan. Also thanks to Pablo who had been there with us couple of days and keeping us entertained. Highly recommend recommend them for an adventurous yet comfortable journey while planning krygystan.

My friends and i had a long journey for 6 days with kyrgyz trip and it is very worth it! All of the places we’ve been both lakes and mountains are so amazing and beautiful. Even we’ve been here for many days, we never get bored of the views of nature. I would like to recommend everyone to visit this country once in your life and specially thank you for our tour guide Billy who always took care of us and created an unforgettable tour.
Had a great time with Tari El. The scenery is very beautiful. Journey from one attraction to another is far away but having Tari El as our driver, like fast and furious. Will come back again

Our trip to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan with this tour company was nothing short of extraordinary. The itinerary provided a comprehensive exploration of both countries, including not only the planned attractions but also delightful surprises with side trips to additional attractions. The natural beauty of the region, from Skazka Canyon to Issyk Kul Lake, Kolsai and Kaindy Lakes, Charyn Canyon, and Shymbulak Mountain Resort, left a lasting impression.

The accommodations, particularly in Tamga Village and Saty Village, provided a comfortable retreat from the cold climate, with fantastic views adding to the overall experience. The warmth and hospitality of the local people, coupled with delicious homecooked meals, enriched our journey.

However, what truly made our trip memorable was the enthusiastic and accommodating guide, Aibek. His willingness to cater to our preferences, stop for impromptu photo opportunities, and facilitate immersive experiences like picnics amidst stunning landscapes truly enhanced the trip. The road trip from Bishkek to Almaty, with its nomadic-style stays and spontaneous moments, added an adventurous flair to the journey.

Overall, our experience with this tour company was exceptional, leaving us with cherished memories and a desire to return, perhaps during the autumn season. My review highlights the company's ability to curate unforgettable experiences and provide excellent service, thanks in large part to the dedication of guides like Aibek.
