Ala Kol lake

Ala Kol lake is a stunning alpine lake located in the Tien Shan mountain range in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,560 meters above sea level, making it a popular destination for trekkers and nature enthusiasts.

The Kyrgyz word “Ala Kol” (which means “variegated lake”) refers to the lake’s shifting hues, which range from deep blue to turquoise depending on the time of day and the weather. The lake is flanked by imposing snow-capped peaks, notably Peak Korona (4,738 meters/15,548 feet) and Peak Ala Kol (4,845 meters/15,896 feet), and is fed by glacial meltwater.

In Kyrgyzstan, Ala Kol Lake is well-known for its breathtaking natural beauty and is a well-liked trekking location. Ala Kol Lake may be reached most frequently via trekking from the village of Karakol, which typically takes 3–4 days round trip. The track offers breath-taking views at every bend as it winds through stunning valleys, verdant meadows, and harsh mountain terrain.

Trekkers can camp close to Ala Kol Lake, immersing themselves in the untainted wilderness and taking in the peace and quiet of the surroundings. However, the weather in the area can be erratic, with lows of below freezing even in the summer, so the proper preparation and clothes are required.
